Dr. Catherine Ortner’s research interests are in the area of emotion regulation. She has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and currently holds a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Dr. Ortner studies the cognitive costs of different emotion regulation strategies and how experience with different strategies may modulate those costs. She is also interested in the variables that influence people’s choices of emotion regulation strategies, and how we can facilitate adaptive emotion regulation choices, both in the laboratory and in everyday life. Dr. Ortner uses mouse-tracking, eye-tracking, daily diaries, and mobile applications in her research.
